VOLVO ECONOMY TRUCK PROVES ITS WORTH FOR A DOWNING AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERS
Wisbech-based A Downing Agricultural Engineers has praised the Volvo FH it purchased from Volvo Used Trucks Economy two years ago for its reliability and durability as the vehicle passes 1,200,000 km.
The FH 6x2 pusher axle tractor unit went into service with the company in February 2018 with 946,000 km on the clock, at 4 years old, and has proven its worth ever since.
Andrew Downing says: “When we were looking at growing our fleet, we wanted quality at a competitive price so for us a Volvo Economy truck was an obvious choice. And it hasn’t disappointed, we’ve recently hit 1.2 million clicks and it really does run as good as new.
“Our drivers are big fans of the Volvo FH, in particular its I-Shift transmission, which really does make it stand out above the rest.”
Originally purchased for use transporting agricultural equipment, the FH has been in operation up to seven days a week during peak times and its work has even taken the truck as far as France. The reliability of the tractor unit has also meant that Andrew has been able to utilise it across different services when required.
He explains: “During Christmas peak times and as the supermarkets came under strain from stockpiling, we put the FH to use on additional work, often double-shifting on a 24/7 basis.”
The truck is serviced under a Volvo Blue Contract, covering preventative maintenance including regular inspections, MOT presentation and tacho calibration. All work is carried out by highly skilled Volvo Trucks technicians using genuine Volvo parts at Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia – Peterborough.
“We get nothing but a first-class service from the team at Peterborough. I believe that a truck is only as good as its backup, and luckily, we’ve got the best. They are always open and honest about any work that needs to take place and don’t hide anything from us,” Andrew adds.
The vehicle had previously seen service with DHL Tradeteam, meaning its finished in the firm’s striking yellow paintwork, which reflects across the whole of Andrew’s current fleet. It also comes specified with forward facing cameras for added safety, and left-hand sensors to detect cyclists in any blindspot.
Andrew also praises Steve Worts at Volvo Used Trucks Economy. “Steve knows what we want and he’s not afraid to tell it how it is. I know I can trust him to find what’s right for our business and that’s really what makes the service so valuable.”
Volvo Used Trucks Economy offers access to a full range of used Volvo trucks, most of which have come from its own contract portfolio. Economy vehicles are typically older trucks which have covered up to 1,000,000km in service with a previous owner.
